Going Live - Technical - Set Name Servers

Going Live on your new web site - Technical

All you need to do in order to go live on TennisConnect is change your Name Servers and let us know that they have been changed.  Sounds easy, right?  If you know what Name Servers are then you know what you need to do anyhow (click here).  If you do not, please use the following information to "take your new web site live".

The following explanation contains a slight simplification of the "Internet" - but it will work for most TennisConnect customers.  You will need to become familiar with three parties.

1)  Your Registrar is the company you purchased your domain name from.  Your Registrar is a company that is authorized to sell domain names.  Popular Registrars include Network Solutions, Register.com, 1and1.com, Go Daddy, etc.

You use your Registrar to tell the Internet where your web site is hosted.  This is called "setting the Name Servers".  Name Servers are (named) servers that store your web site files and present your web site pages.  To use the TennisConnect hosting service, set your Name Servers to NS1.MYTENNISCENTER.COM NS2.MYTENNISCENTER.COM.

DO NOT change your Name Servers if you have email addresses @ your domain name without speaking to technical support (unless your email boxes are at TennisConnect Domains or secureserver.net).  Call us at 888.620.6696 XT 2.

If you have an existing domain and you do not know your Registrar, click here.

If you do not have a domain name, we recommend a service we set up called TennisConnectDomains.org.  TennisConnect Domains is a GoDaddy re-seller that allows us to provide you with one stop shopping and support.

2)  Your Web Site Hosting company.  That's us - at least for the domain or sub domain that we host for your TennisConnect Service.  Once you tell your Registrar that your Name Servers are NS1.MYTENNISCENTER.COM and NS2.MYTENNISCENTER.COM - we do the rest.  You do not need to establish an account for web hosting.  This is included in your membership in the Tennis Industry Association.

3)  Your email service host.  You can set up mailboxes @ your domain name through a variety of services.  By default our servers are set to "find" your mailboxes at TennisConnectDomains.org, so if you need to establish mailboxes @ your domain name it will be easiest for you to purchase them through TennisConnectDomains.org.  If you choose to host your email elsewhere however, you will need to supply us with the MX and MailStore records and IP addresses.

If you use TennisConnectDomains.org to provide your email account hosting then your webmail address will be http://email.yourdomainname dot whatever.

For more information about mail box services from TennisConnect Domains please click here (we recommend the Unlimited Plan for $2.50/month)

TIPS and Clarifications:
If your domain is registered at another Registrar, you do not need to transfer the domain to TennisConnect Domains in order to go live using TennisConnect.  Of course it is easier for us over the long term if you do, but sometimes in the short term it is best to keep your existing Registrar and simply change the Name Servers as explained in point # 1 above.

We cannot provide "help" on how to use all of the Registrar's control panel software, but we can help you with Go Daddy.  If you are using GoDaddy.com for your Registrar, please click here for screen-print by screen-print instructions for changing Name Servers.

You should make sure that YOU are Administrative contact for your domain name.  The Administrative Contact is the "owner" of the domain, and "owns" the right to renew, cancel, change hosting companies (Name Servers), etc.  Just as with any other business asset, this asset should be in your name (or "President" and president @ yourcta dot com if you are a CTA).  To check your domain ownership you can look it up using Domain Tools.

For example, to lookup the owner of www.tiatennis.com (one of our demo accounts) you would go to:

http://whois.domaintools.com/tiatennis.com (to look up your domain, replace "tiatennis.com" in the URL with your domain name)

If you are familiar with these topics and just want the net net:

Example on TennisConnectDomains.org:

Log in to www.tennisconnectdomains.org and go to My Products | Domain Manager.  Choose the domain in question.  Then choose Name Servers:

Then complete this form as follows:

  • Our Name Servers are NS1.MYTENNISCENTER.COM and NS2.MYTENNISCENTER.COM
  • If you have a mail host, please provide us with the MX records and create an SPF record for 69.63.134.19
  • If you set up a sub-domain:
    • point the "A" record to 69.63.134.19
    • create a CNAME for the subdomain using the www prefix (required by our application)
  • If you require an FTP account, please email support@tennisconnect.org with your request
