You purchase a domain by registering it with any ICANN certified supplier (ICANN is a quasi-governmental body for the Internet Corporation for Assigning Names and Numbers on the internet).There are plenty of suppliers to choose from including register.com 1and1.com, networksolutions.com, go daddy.com etc. Each of these companies has their own sales and support organization, and you are free to choose any of them.

When you purchase your domain you will be prompted for many other related services. Other than email boxes, you do not need any of them.HoweverPrivate or Deluxe registration is recommended.
